UHCR at Mayoral Forum

Upcoming Events and Happenings

Howdy fellow College Republicans and conservatives! This is a quick update on the goings on at UHCR. We encourage you to check out the calendar for upcoming events like tablings, meetings, and socials. Of course, you are encouraged to join us at the next meeting  and keep checking our Facebook Page for updates.

Mayoral Forum

We co-hosted a mayoral forum last month with the UH Dems and UH SGA. We had over 70 attendees and our chapter gained a few new members. We had Mayor Parker, Ben Hall (D), and Eric Dick (R) speak on various topics including infrastructure, liabilities and the budget, and the overall future of Houston.  There are many races, including City Council races running currently. Early voting is mid-October and the election is November 5th. Remember to register to vote by Oct 7.

2013 Fall TXFCR Conference

The Texas Federation of College Republicans is excited to announce their 2013 Fall Conference will be held on October 19, 2013. We will be hosting our conference on the beautiful Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas, TX.  Please use this link to RSVP for the conference and the optional tour of the George W. Bush Presidential Library.

We need as many of our members to attend this as possible. Our delegate count at the spring TXFCR State Convention is based on how many of our members attend this. Travel costs will be covered if you travel with the group. Come to the Oct 7 meeting for more details.

Note from the Chairman

We have had a great year so far. People know who we are, on campus and throughout the state. At the Texas GOP SREC meeting in Austin in late September, I got the opportunity to hear from our leadership what they’ve heard about our group; they are impressed. A former CR from Dallas was even elected to the SREC that day, which goes to show that CRs have a unique opportunity to head-start their careers.

I have been asked to speak at the Texas Federation of Republican Women Convention October 17 by Carolyn Hodges, President of TFRW and current President of the Village RW, here in Houston. There, I will promote CRs in Texas and encourage members to donate to and support their local CR chapters.

For our club, we need to work on attendance and membership. This may be a very liberal campus but we need to be the voice that pushes against the liberal ideology that cracks the heart of Houston (and its roads).

Again, November 11 is an important meeting for our club and the many clubs in our region of Texas. Next year (2014), we will show the community and the state our political activism power. We have a few programs coming from the state federation to help push against Battleground Texas and the Nov 11 meeting will serve as a training event.

I hope you’re as excited as I am for the year to come. The 2014 election cycle is just around the corner and our goal is to grow the reach of conservatism in our state and take back the U.S. Senate. College Republicans are leading the way. Remember, you are not the future of the party… you are the party; and that’s just the way it is.

New Year, Unwavering Resolve

Howdy fellow UH Coogs and supporters!

Texas Federation of College Republicans Logo

The College Republicans at the University of Houston are set to begin a new year with fresh ideas, big plans, great speakers and guests, and an always unwavering resolve to stand for conservative principles and liberty. Our chapter has been working close with the Texas Federation of College Republicans throughout the summer to rejuvenate College Republicans around the state. We hope to forum 5-7 new CR chapters within Harris County alone within the next year.

Newly devised, student lead social campaigns formed at the state and local levels look to fight against the former Obama for America campaign team’s new push called Battleground Texas who believe Texas is not “innately conservative”. That’s what an liberal elitist who has no clue who our fellow Texans are and what we stand for would say about our great people in this state. We love our liberty and freedom and when someone comes knocking on our door (assuming they haven’t knocked it down first without permission) and starts taking our rights away, Texans stand up and fight. We will not allow the power hungry federal government to do as it pleases in our borders without a fight. It is a long standing tradition in Texas, from Gonzales, to the Alamo, to San Jacinto, one that crosses political lines, that the freedom of individuals is paramount to a free society.

UHCR with Attorney General Greg Abbott

In this next year, College Republicans at UH has big plans for our part of Texas. We expect our group to grow to the largest it has ever been within the next few weeks. Our chapter will co-host multiple events on campus including political forums, fair booths, and tailgating parties. We even have a few surprises in store for our members.

We will be meeting once every month on the first Monday at 5:30p except in September when it is on Wednesday, September 4th at 5:30p. Monthly socials and special events, as well as free pizza and drinks at every meeting, are just some of the benefits in joining the College Republicans at the University of Houston. Dues are $25 (w/o shirt) or $35 (with shirt).

Come join us as we stand on resolute principle. And that’s just the way it is.
